Technology Integration

My duties as an Instructional Technology Specialist include:
  • training teachers in district (at faculty meetings, professional development days, Digital Day of Learning, New Hire Orientation, etc.) and at local conferences
  • brainstorming, researching, and/or setting up for technology-rich lessons in the classroom
  • modeling lessons for teachers
  • co-teaching technology-rich lessons with classroom teachers
  • designing and updating the technology department's website on the district webpage
  • acting as district administrator during Carroll's time as part of Seesaw for Schools and training K-4th grade teachers on Seesaw
  • training 5-12th grade teachers on Canvas to support our district's LMS initiative
  • contributing to various district projects

Specific examples of technology integration with teachers:
  • supported the Language Science team in various projects, including digitizing assessments, integrating a team Google account, creating a ThingLink to pull all technology resources together, and more
  • assisted encore teachers and administrators in the implementation of Google Sheets for Thankful Thursdays, Google Docs for PE Field Days, Choice Eliminator and FormMule for Google Forms
  • supported teachers in their first Mystery Chats (click HERE for more information on that)
  • modeled app-smashing lessons involving Whiteboard Lite, Shadow Puppet Edu, Popplet, and Seesaw | Example: character traits with Popplet and Seesaw

Seesaw

  • In February 2017 and February 2018, I presented both beginner and advanced sessions about Seesaw at the annual TCEA Convention in Austin, Texas.
  • In fall 2016, I helped our district's elementary campuses secure a free trial of Seesaw for Schools and thus, access to all of the premium features within Seesaw. This led to my role as a district administrator for Seesaw for Schools, which meant training teachers, brainstorming roll-out plans with administrators, uploading student IDs and creating classes, and general maintenance to ensure the system runs smoothly for teachers.
  • Since 2015, I have been presenting professional development sessions to teachers in district and at local conferences, as well as crafting tutorials on my EdTech blog in an effort to help teachers integrate Seesaw in the best and most efficient way possible.
  • I started using Seesaw in its Beta stage in spring 2015. As I learned more about this tool, I realized how perfect it could be for the elementary classroom, so I became a Seesaw Ambassador in summer 2015.

Swivl

  • In spring 2017, I became a Swivl Pioneer -- dedicated to leading and learning more about individualized classroom observations and teaching 21st century kids.
  • I began experimenting with the Swivl robot around 2014, when my principal designated a device to the Science Lab. Rather than using the Swivl to film myself (since the activities were an extension of instruction provided in the regular classroom), I asked student volunteers to wear the Swivl microphone each day during experiments. It was incredibly interesting to view the video footage, as I could "listen in" to students working with partners and thinking through the science content. It also came in handy when a student was absent during part of a multi-week experiment, as that student could easily watch the video to get "caught up" on what their peers had accomplished while they were gone!

Symbaloo EDU

In 2016 I joined the SymbalooEDU Certified Community by taking the basic certification course and exams. Click HERE to view my Symbaloo profile.

Mystery Chats

Mystery Chats are a fun way to integrate Skype, Google Hangout, or FaceTime with math, science, reading, social studies, communication skills, and critical thinking! Click on a photo below to zoom in and learn more about our Mystery Chat experiences.
